Repair or replace? The quarter rule and three exceptions

Size matters, but so does where the damage sits.

Repair or replace? The quarter rule and three exceptions - Glassy Auto Glass, Denver

The rule of thumb: a chip smaller than a quarter or a crack shorter than six inches can be repaired. Anything bigger needs a new windshield.

Three exceptions. Damage directly in the driver's line of sight gets replaced because even a good repair leaves a faint mark. Damage at the edge of the glass gets replaced because the edge carries structural load. And damage over the camera bracket gets replaced because resin can distort the camera's view.

When in doubt, text us a photo with a coin next to the chip for scale. We'll tell you straight.
